New Mexico - October 1997

When my brother and I set out for New Mexico in October of 1997, we had only the most general of plans for the trip. We decided to visit Santa Fe and Taos first, then drop down through Albuquerque and eventually cross back into Texas near Las Cruces. Having decided that much, we got in the car and headed north and west.

The following is of chronicle of my trip, complete with a running narrative and the best pictures my Kodak disposal camera could produce. :-)

  • Day 1 - The Road to Tucumcari
  • Day 2 - Santa Fe to Taos and Back
  • Day 3 - Albuquerque, Grants and Bandera
  • Day 4 - El Malpais National Monument
  • Day 5 - Socorro, Magdalena, and the NRAO

The sixth day found us home in Houston by early evening -- about 2,500 miles from when we started. While relieved to be home, I was sad to have left the stark beauty of New Mexico behind me.
